Academic Search Premier Database of Periodicals

New Resources — Posted by Kay Benjamin @ 14:12

The library has upgraded from Academic Search Elite to Academic Search Premier. Touted as "the world's largest academic multi-disciplinary database," Premier is more than twice the size of Elite, providing access to 4,600+ periodicals, including the full text of over 3,600 peer-reviewed journals. New features include the ability to select "Academic Journals" or "Magazines" or "Newspapers" from the list of results. For a more in-depth description of Academic Search Premier go to the Ebsco web page.

This, and other new databases, are part of the SUNYConnect package which comes through SUNY consortial negotiating.

The library no longer has InfoTrac Expanded Academic, but Academic Search Premier is a much larger database, more than filling the gap left by InfoTrac.

The New WorldCat.org

New Resources — Posted by Kay Benjamin @ 15:36

WorldCat, the world's largest joint catalog of books and media materials owned by libraries the world over, is now freely available for searching to anyone anywhere. Search "1.3 billion items in 18,000 libraries worldwide" at www.worldcat.org. Find out what resources exist on any topic, find out who owns the resources you need (including your own Milne Library at SUNY Oneonta), and, best of all, submit a request to borrow items Oneonta doesn't own.

SUNY Union Catalog

New Resources — Posted by Kay Benjamin @ 15:30

The new SUNY Connect Union Catalog allows you to search over 50 SUNY library catalogs through a single search engine. Results indicate which libraries own an item, and if Oneonta does not own it, simply click on Request Item in the upper right of the screen to ask for the item through Oneonta's Interlibrary Loan.

The link to the SUNY Union Catalog is on the upper right of the library home page under Other Library Catalogs.
