Felicita's rescue of Christine Mutimura

(Interview conducted in Gihara village on 9 March, 2007)                                                                                                                 An elderly Hutu woman named Mwitakuze Felicita saved Christine Mutimura, who was 6 at the time of the genocide. Sister Patrice Mukandutiye who was an aunt of Christine arranged the interview and was present there.  Christine is now in secondary school 5th level.  Her family was in Gitarama. They were all murdered Felicita claimed to be an aunt of Christine. It was dangerous to do so but she was a Christian. They prayed day and night. Brought child into the home; all members of the family did their best to protect her. Even the soldier who came to Gihara in April“This is my friend’s sister. Protect her”Ntirenganya Alphonse was a close friend of Christine’s older brother. They were in seminary together and visited each others homes frequentlyFelicita’s son who was in the (Hutu) army The son was murdered in Gisenyi.  He was accused of being a Tutsi.The mother said that they assumed he was a TutsiWhen they went to the church for protection Alphonse intervened

It was said that the entire family really rescued the girl.
