Brian Dolber, Assistant Professor of Mass Communication in the Department of Communication Arts, recently published his article “Strange Bedfellows: Yiddish socialist radio and the collapse of broadcasting reform in the United States, 1927-1938.” It appears in latest edition of the Historical Journal of Film, Television, and Radio. Dolber argues that the political compromises that radio station WEVD made during debates over the structure of broadcasting in the 1920s and 1930s allowed the Socialist station to succeed, it was at the expense of a broader movement to protect non-commercial broadcasting on the air.
