Andrew Gallup of the Psychology Department recently published a theoretical paper with Jacqueline Aliotta Gallup of SUNY Upstate Medical University in the journal Medical Hypotheses. Based on accumulating research showing a connection between yawning and thermoregulation, the authors propose that frequent yawning could be used a signal of initial fever relief. Applications of this work include the improved behavioral monitoring and treatment of patients in clinical settings.
