Program Overview
This program builds upon initial skills and knowledge and further develops educational professional leaders who are committed to excellence, empowerment, diversity, and the best research-based teaching practices. Students will gain a greater understanding of the teaching-learning process to develop skills in employing the most up-to-date technologies to enhance student performance.
A highlight of the program is that it is registered with the New York State Education Department to provide dual certification for program completers. Graduates of this program will meet the requirements for the NYSED Professional teaching certification in all areas of initial certification. Graduates are also eligible for initial certification as an Educational Technology Specialist.
Applicants will need to show eligibility for initial teaching certification, including passing scores on all portions of the certification examinations. For applicants with NYS certification, that means passing scores on all three sections of the NYSTCE. In particular, students will need to present evidence of passing scores on the analytical writing sections of all three exams.
For applicants from other states, if no such writing scores are available, the GRE score may be substituted. GRE scores may also be requested from NYS applicants who have not passed the three writing samples.
