SUNY Oneonta Police Chief Barton R. Ingersoll was recognized Dec. 6 by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services for his role as president of the State University Police Chiefs Association in pursuing accreditation for SUNY police agencies.
Several members of the SUNY Oneonta University Police were among the estimated 10,000 police officers who gathered in Long Island on Monday, Dec. 19, for the funeral of slain New York City police officer Peter Figoski. Officer Figoski, 47, was shot and killed while responding to a robbery in Brooklyn on Dec. 12.

SUNY Oneonta recognized 215 students who completed requirements for bachelor’s and master’s degrees during the fall semester at the 2011 December Candidate Recognition Ceremony. More than 1,500 students, faculty, family and friends members attended the ceremony in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House on Sunday, Dec. 4.
Student and faculty musicians performed for a standing-room-only crowd on Nov. 11 during a dedication of SUNY Oneonta’s new music wing, which opened at the beginning of the semester in the college’s Fine Arts building. Watch a video of the event here.

SUNY Oneonta students will present a night of West African music, dance and food in a collaborative benefit concert titled “Find Yourself in the Sounds of Africa” from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, at the Center for Multicultural Experiences in Lee Hall.
SUNY Oneonta will hold its 2011 December Candidate Recognition Ceremony on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 11 a.m. in the Dewar Arena of the Alumni Field House. Hosted by college President Nancy Kleniewski, the event will recognize students who are expected to complete their requirements for graduation this semester.
