College to Hold Drill at Milne Library

As part of SUNY Oneonta’s routine emergency preparedness training, a full-scale drill will take place Thursday, September 27. While the event will be confined to the college’s Milne Library, those in the vicinity of campus may hear the emergency siren sound between 9:15 and 10:15 a.m.

Because of the drill, the Milne Library will be closed to the general public during the morning.

“We want to make community members aware that the library’s closure and siren they might hear tomorrow morning don’t signify an actual emergency,” said SUNY Oneonta Spokesman Hal Legg. “For this particular type of drill, the siren can be activated for as long as a minute, and people are not accustomed to hearing that.”

SUNY Oneonta regularly conducts emergency simulations in partnership with local police agencies, fire departments and other first responders. Led by the University Police Department, these drills give participants practice in dealing with natural disasters and other dangerous scenarios.
