Internship Expert Lauren Berger to Speak
Best-selling author and internship guru Lauren Berger will present “Everything Internships with the Intern Queen” at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb.27, in the Hunt College Union Ballroom at SUNY Oneonta. The lecture, which is free and open to the public, will be followed by a question-and-answer session and book signing.
The founder and CEO of Intern Queen Inc.—an online internship destination that helps students find and apply for internships—Berger is the author of the best-selling guide “All Work, No Pay: Finding an Internship, Building Your Resume, Making Connections, and Gaining Job Experience” (Random House, 2012).
A prominent national speaker who has spoken to thousands of high school and college students, Berger writes a weekly advice column for the Washington Post website and has been featured in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, FoxBusiness, “The Today Show” and the New York Post, among others. In 2009, Business Week Magazine named Berger to its annual list of America’s Best Young Entrepreneurs, and the research advisory firm mobileYouth included Berger in its 2010 list of the top 10 Youth Marketing Minds.
During her talk, Berger will share insider secrets for making the most of internship opportunities, culled from personal experience managing 15 internships during her four years of college and from the partnerships she has developed with more than 500 employers across the United States and in Canada.
Internships are a key piece of the academic experience at SUNY Oneonta, offering students the chance to test-drive potential careers and gain experience in their fields of study. More than 1,200 SUNY Oneonta students completed credit-bearing internships last year. This semester, 130 SUNY Oneonta students made connections with potential employers at the college’s first New York City Internship Fair, held Jan. 11 at Borough of Manhattan Community College. The annual Summer Opportunities Fair on Feb. 13 will provide a similar opportunity for students to network with local and regional employers.
Berger’s appearance was arranged through The Guild Agency Speakers Bureau. It is sponsored by SUNY Oneonta’s office of New Student Services, Athletics department, InterGreek Council, Office of Residence and Community Life, Class of 2014, Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, OnMark student marketing club, Damascene Book Cellar and the College at Oneonta Foundation
