College, City to Hold Emergency Drill Friday

SUNY Oneonta, Oneonta Public Transit, and first responders from the City of Oneonta will participate in a full-scale emergency preparedness drill during the afternoon of Friday, April 12. The event will simulate a bus accident at approximately 1 p.m. near the intersection of Ravine Parkway and W. Dormitory Road on the college’s campus.

“We want to make OPT riders, commuters, community members and others who come to campus next Friday aware that the scene near the college’s main entrance off West Street is not an actual emergency,” said SUNY Oneonta spokesman Hal Legg. “It’s also worth mentioning that the drill may have a small effect on traffic flow through the area.”

SUNY Oneonta regularly conducts emergency simulations in partnership with local police agencies, fire departments and other agencies. Led by the University Police Department, these drills give participants practice in dealing with natural disasters and other dangerous scenarios.
