Han discusses the ways in which the material objects in our lives can offer glimpses into our everyday joys, pains, hopes and fears—particularly for soon-to-be parents who are suddenly occupied with the acquisition of new gadgets and gear. Han’s research has been focused on reproduction, kinship and gender in the United States. In her new book, “Pregnancy in Practice” (Berghan Books 2013), she examines cultural practices such as preparing a nursery, placing sonogram “baby pictures” in a scrapbook and shopping for baby shower gifts.

In addition to airing on WAMC (99.3 FM), Han’s segment is featured on the WAMC website.
