DASNY Announces Test Borings

The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York announced that in connection with the townhouse development, Acme Boring Company will perform sub-surface borings along various areas of the proposed construction site on Thursday, Dec. 15.

DASNY Receives Phase II Environmental Site Assessment

Results of the Phase II Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) were sent to the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. According to the firm that conducted the ESA, HDR | HydroQual, 21 soil samples were analyzed for pollutants including pesticides. Soil sampling results were compared to New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) Part 375 Environmental Remediation Program Soil Cleanup Objectives (SCOs) for Unrestricted, Residential and Restricted Residential uses. Arsenic was detected above the NYSDEC Part 375 SCOs for Unrestricted, Residential and Restricted Residential uses in two samples and above the Part 375 SCOs for Unrestricted uses in four samples. The arsenic concentration above the SCOs ranged from 14 to 21 mg/Kg which were above the Unrestricted use SCO of 13 mg/Kg and the Residential and Restricted Residential use SCO of 16 mg/Kg. HDR | HydroQual recommends a management plan be implemented to mitigate the impact of arsenic at the site.

College Hosts Open Forum

Approximately three dozen people attended SUNY Oneonta’s open forum at 6 p.m. in the Morris Conference Center. Among items discussed were surface and ground water management, pedestrian and vehicular traffic, buffering between the college and residential neighborhoods, and the siting of the project.

Representatives from the college and other organizations involved in the project’s planning will present information and receive feedback at 6 p.m. in the Craven Lounge at the campus’ Morris Conference Center.

The Dormitory Authority of the State of New York is conducting testing today within the area under consideration for townhouse construction. Residents near the end of Clinton Street may notice a boring rig in their vicinity.

Foundation Clarifies Speculation

Below is the text of a letter submitted to the Daily Star on July 21 by College at Oneonta Foundation President Jeffrey Strauss and Vice President Paul Perlman.

To the Editor:

We write to clarify some of the speculation about SUNY Oneonta’s acquisition of properties adjacent to its campus that the Daily Star presented in John Willis’ July 16 guest column. Specifically, no contributions to the College at Oneonta Foundation by local donors or other individuals were involved in the transactions that Mr. Willis described; the occasional acceptance, purchase, sale and holding of real property is common among foundations affiliated with public colleges; and while three SUNY Oneonta administrators do serve on our Foundation’s governing board, they do so in an ex-officio capacity along with 27 volunteer members who raise and manage private funds for our endowment, college programs and scholarships.
